How Montrose turned transfers into growth
When Montrose launched its investment platform, attracting interest wasn’t the problem. The harder challenge was helping customers move the investments they already held elsewhere.
Today, Anessa provides the investment data underneath Montrose’s digital transfer journey — helping customers move existing portfolios with less manual work. Since launch, transfers have become a significant source of invested capital and helped more than double the average portfolio size on the platform.
Opening an account is easy. Moving a portfolio isn’t.
Customers joining Montrose often already had established investment portfolios with other providers. Moving those assets traditionally meant finding account details, navigating different interfaces and completing a largely manual process.
That friction creates a very practical problem for an investment platform: a customer can open an account without moving the majority of their wealth.
Daniel Bargiel Almer, CPO, Montrose
“Getting someone to open a new portfolio is easy compared to convincing them to move an existing one.”
Montrose wanted the transfer itself to feel like part of its digital product rather than an administrative process outside it.
Financial data underneath the transfer
Within the Montrose journey, customers select the provider they want to transfer from and consent to sharing their investment data.
Anessa accesses and structures the relevant information from the existing provider and gives Montrose the data it needs to initiate the transfer.
The result is a transfer experience built and controlled by Montrose, with Anessa handling the financial data infrastructure underneath.
From new accounts to greater share of wallet
Almost half of Montrose customers initiated a transfer after the new journey went live.
More importantly, making existing assets easier to move has changed how much customers bring to the platform.
Daniel Bargiel Almer
“Since going live, Anessa’s smooth transfer process has helped us more than double the average portfolio size on our platform. We’ve built a flow that removes friction and builds confidence. And our customers are responding.”
For Montrose, access to the right investment data has turned transfers from a source of friction into an important part of customer acquisition and growth.
